Managing Partner
Fred joined Johanson & Yau in 1989 and is the managing partner of the firm. Previously, he was a partner in a “Big 4” international accounting firm and joined Johanson & Yau in order to provide a more personal level of service to small and medium-sized businesses.
Fred began his public accounting career in 1974 upon graduation from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce. His entire career has been devoted to servicing the needs of businesses and business owners with accounting, tax and advisory services. He has extensive experience helping start-up companies with accounting system implementation and tax planning issues and has advised clients on the sale and purchase of businesses. Fred emphasizes working closely with clients throughout the year to assist with ongoing business issues, answer questions and promote planning. His client relationships date back many years and include real estate developers, construction contractors, service companies, light manufacturing, and health care businesses as well as non-profit organizations.
As managing partner, Fred and his management group have developed a team of professionals who possess broad expertise and diverse backgrounds who work hard to implement the Firm's mission, vision and values. To better service the firm’s growing clients, Fred and his team recognized the need for the firm to become a member of BKR International, an association of public accounting firms located throughout the United States and around the world.
Fred is a licensed CPA in the State of California. He also holds FINRA Series 7 and 66 securities licenses and a California insurance license (Lic. #0D52949).
He is also a member of the Santa Clara University Board of Fellows and the Rotary Club of Downtown San Jose. He serves as a member of the Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose legal/finance committee and the Parent Board of Presentation High School. Fred lives in San Jose with his wife and two daughters. He enjoys travelling, Hawaii and spending time with his family.
